About Us

Background

The HFA is an indigenous non-government organization (NGO), founded in September 2015 and registered under the Solomon Islands Government’s charitable Trust Act on the 2nd day of August 2016. It has adopted a constitution to govern its members and operation with the guidance of its 6 member executives to be in charge of its operation. Each executive member is represented by each family from 6 sons of Huitarau which bears the name HUITARAU FOOTPRINT ASSOCIATION. Since its establishment, it has been developing strategies to meet community-based development in promoting community empowerment, community-driven development as well as inclusive participation. It uses participatory approaches to its members so that they become self-reliant and resilient and be able to take ownership of their own future development and our contribution towards the wider community development aspirations. HFA work is expanded towards implementing projects targeting many issues affecting individuals, families, and wider communities. This includes disaster risk reduction and climate change, civic education, environment conservation, gender, leadership, and Good Governance, life skills and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and many others. HFA believes that access to information on how to improve one’s standard of living is a fundamental human right.

Vision

Committed to upholding our worthy customs, traditions, and religious principles and values, so that the future generations will inherit all that is valuable of our heritage. True to our village-based values HFA will become an avenue to share success, seek reassurance, and refresh our mind and spirit as a group. Our vision is that everyone is embraced to live together in harmony against all forms of injustice, poverty, social and political instability in our changing villages and communities.

Our Mission

There are good reasons to believe that our role in terms of family obligation may not be fully met in some circumstances. As a result, HFA was formed in order to promote programs and activities necessary to instil togetherness in and outside of the family, tribes, and communities. This is one of the purposes that become the driving force in establishing this association. HFA’s mission is to improve the quality of standard of living of all members and to raise their social status in their existing communities by:

  1. Implementing projects that build capacity in our existing village-based communities and contribute to improving the quality of life in all areas affecting the members of the association.
  2. Collecting, gathering, producing, and sharing multi-media information resources and contributing to the research, assessment, and analysis of issues affecting the members of the association.
  3. Promoting Networking and advocacy activities that encourage common understanding and communication between institutions, agencies, and individuals who can help members of the association make constructive adjustments and changes to their quality of life.

Belief

Family is the building block of society. HFA believes family is the foundation of the community and has the building power to transform the community and the nation. Family is where children acquire discern behaviors and characters. A strong family makes a strong nation.

Core Values

HFA believes in the core values of teamwork, respect, and trust to prevail amongst our members, tribe, and our communities. This should be shown to others to encourage a sense of family correlation as it helps to develop positive relationships between every member because it is based on the principles of teamwork, respect, and trust. This is an avenue developed to encourage and promote a supportive environment for all HFA members to achieve our mission.

HFA believes in building on the existing strengths of its members in the communities as this encourages a sense of ownership, recognition, and responsibility of development and ensures future sustainability. This will encourage them to put in their best for the association.

HFA believes in creating and demonstrating quality leadership. This is the foundation of any organic and learning organization. Building on our existing human resources to support, train and learn to aspire towards serving society remains significant for HFA.

HFA believes that good development and positive change involve the participation of all members of the association regardless of their age, education, gender, religion, and social status. Improvement through change and innovation.

HFA believes the basis for any holistic and sustainable development must base on the recognition that material and spiritual development must go hand in hand. There is a moral dimension to the development of our wealth and resources fundamentally to embrace the common good.

Way Forward

  • Building and promoting the HFA brand is critical in the developmental life of the organization. Our challenge of visibility or being seen and recognized in the NGO sector will continue to be the pivot of our work and engagement with community audiences, partners, CSOs, stakeholders, government institutions, and donors.

  • Partnership and connectivity. HFA as a community-based organization can offer a unique opportunity to other stakeholders and the government of what is really affecting their community. On the other hand, building partnership and connections with NGOs, government, donor communities, and others enhance the breadth of depth in the decision-making of the organization.

  • Financial sustainability. HFA as a growing community-based organization with no previous engagement in any donor-funded program still struggling to secure funding opportunities to carry out some of its plans. While this is not a bad exercise, HFA will continue to get into becoming more financially sustainable by engaging in fundraising activities. Fundraising activities vary, but HFA is looking towards developing a financial security platform to better support HFA work in the future.
